[HELP] Tags do not have a purpose or function

I am unable to find any documentation around tags, so I'm seeking help to understand how to use them. I can create tags and I can tag time entries, but there does not appear to be a way to use the tags. I can't filter reports by tag, I can't filter timelines by tag, tags can't be used in goals, dashboard or any other view that I can find. From what I can tell tags have no purpose since they can't be used to filter any views. Can someone please explain to me what the purpose of tags are? What is the purpose of tagging a time entry if none of the views allow me to filter by tags?
