Seeing what times a column represents is hard when the column is completely scheduled

If a time slot column is full, I can’t tell when it stops or starts. I’d like to be able to see at a glance both how long the slot is and what its start and end times are. The difference in width between the 1 hour and 2 hour slots is too subtle for me to tell how long the slot is supposed to be, especially if there is a mix of WG session lengths within one column (since we sometimes place a shorter session within a longer available slot).

The design anticipates having grids that are not regular - allowing different rooms to have different grids. It also tried to minimize lost screen space. But the header may be needed.

If we follow the suggestion in the RFP to break different rooms with the same grid to different sections on the page, then having a header at the top of each row would still make sense.

Here is a first pass of adding headers above the columns.

What's new is is the presence of timeslot headings above each column. Behind the scenes here, the rooms have been grouped into blocks with identical timeslot structure (over the entire meeting). For this meeting (109) there's only the regular rooms plus the HotRFC room, so only two sets of timeslot headings.

Feedback on this would be appreciated. I think some styling is needed to better indicate the meaning of the heading labels. My inclination is to keep the labels within each empty timeslot as well.

Yes, please keep the labels in the unassigned boxes.

This looks like it's enough to go with as is - I think styling would be gravy, but Liz should comment.

The only negative thing I can point to is the possible confusion of times between the blocks of rooms - In the screenshot above, hotrfc is at 2100, but what's above it is at 1200. But getting them to line up will be pretty hard I think? It's something we can keep in mind for a future improvement.

It'd be nice to line up the sessions but I think it's hard enough that it should be treated separately. I have some ideas, but there are going to be many wrinkles and corner cases to worry about.

I was planning to add a bit of separation between the blocks of rooms - this might help break up the impression that the column simply continues into the next block.

This looks great, thank you! I agree with Robert that the way hotrfc's timeslot shows up is a little confusing, but I can definitely work around it. Things like hotrfc are one-offs and during the bulk of my scheduling work I would just hide that time slot anyway. As long as I will be able to easily see the grid for all of the 'regular' week and the main meeting rooms, I don't mind if the extra stuff is a bit weirder.

Ok, will proceed with this. I did add a gap between the blocks of rooms which draws a bit of attention to the change in the column's meaning.

I also sorted the dates so they're in order instead of putting Friday the 13th before Monday the 9th... oops!
