The new datatracker view for the documents is way too large. I can only see 6 documents in my screen (full size desktop screen with window height of 1000 pixels). Earlier I could see about twenty or so. Now it is very hard to see any documents as you can see so little of them at the same time.

With the current changes, there is room for about 12 documents in a WG doc list on a 1280x1024 screen. Zooming to 1 step smaller font size in Firefox gives 14. Closing this as fixed; if this is still not acceptable, suggestions for information to be removed is needed.

I can get only 10 documents on 1280x1024 screen. This is caused because the titles almost always goes to 2 lines, and sometimes 3 lines, and in addition the obsoleted rfc lists etc can also make some items to be 4 lines etc. Zooming to 90% gives one more up to 11, zooming to 80% gives 2 more up to 13.

Making the document name column wider would help as then the document title would not go that often to multiple lines. Adjusting the Date column to be narrower, and moving the "New" to next line, i.e. to same line which has page number and making it bit smaller would give more room for the document name.

Also making the status text to be smaller, as most of those text are not something that really need to be read, the status column could then be narrower etc.

Actually removing the whole menu stuff on the left would help most. That would give much more space for other fields. Unfortunately the Status column seems to get most of the new space, which still makes the document name to wrap to multiple lines quite often.

I think everything we have on the left is already on the top menu, so if Javascript is enabled (I think the top menu requires it) the javascript could hide he whole left menu.

The big differences between the old view and the new one is:

• the old view lets the table row extend out to the right of the viewport, so you have to scroll
  horizontally in order to see all columns (in a 1024x768 viewport).
• We have an always visible top menu, which takes up some vertical space.

This means that we're trying to fit more information into the same vertical space when we attempt to make the number of documents which can be seen match the old view.

The only way this really can happen is by making the font smaller. Comparing the current ccamp WG page in the old and new view, I need to scroll the old view to the right in order to see both the document and status columns; this still leaves part of the IPR columns and all of the AD/shepherd column out to the right. With this scroll in the old view, and zooming the new view to an equivalent font size, I get 15 documents in the old view, 11 in the new view. This is after moving the 'New' indication off the date line.

I've experimented with various other tweaks, but they only seem to move the pain around -- even if some documents take fewer lines, others take up more, and there's no net gain.

The only thing I can think of which would really change this would be to remove the left-hand menu, as suggested. I'm going to see if this can be done, but I'll try to do it with a preference setting rather than javascript (not sure if the idea was to be able to manually collapse the side menu, or something else). There seems to be a number of people who feel that the left-hand menu can be removed now that we have a top menu, so making that a preference makes sense to me.
